Councillor Meeting

Some of our children had the opportunity to meet Councillor Mike Drabble, who is the councillor for the Richmond Ward.

Our Voice Matters Debate

The Year 5 and Year 6 children took part in a debate against another school in Sheffield (Town Hall Chambers).

The debate subject was 'SATs are a waste of time'. The children were debating for this and had to research reasons why the SATs are a waste of time.

The children's debating skills, attitude and behaviour on the trip was amazing. As a school we are proud of you all.

Jobs for pupils in Year 5 and Year 6

We are pleased to announce that Woodthorpe Primary School have thirty new staff members from Year 5 to Year 6. The children went through the normal recruitment period; they had to get and complete an application form as well as attend a formal interview for the role they applied for.

The roles vary throughout the school, from PE monitors, KS1 readers, shop assistants to Twitter Buddies, who will update the schools twitter account on a weekly basis. The children are completing their training period and will be starting the role by the end of the week.

Well done to all the successful applicants!

Ofsted Report

The Ofsted Report following the inspection in November has been published and is available to download, as is our Ofsted Report Letter.

It is very pleasing to read such positive things about our school and we are very happy with the conclusions the inspector came to after spending time with us.

We feel great satisfaction as we head into a New Year that we are doing everything we can to develop as a school so we can support and guide the most important people - your children - and this has been recognised in such a positive report.

We would like to thank all parents/carers who support our work so well because without that partnership children would not flourish as they do.

Shoe Box Appeal

Woodthorpe have been collecting shoe boxes for the Manor shoe box appeal. The children in the school have been incredibly selfless. We would like to say a massive thank you to the parents and carers.

The deadline for bringing any shoe boxes or items in is Wednesday 19th December 2018. Thanks again for all the support.

Update: Sue Rose, from the S2 Food Bank would like to say a massive thank you to all the parents and children who donated to the worthwhile cause.

School Council

The school councillors went to Sheffield Town Hall on Wednesday 21st November to meet two local councillors' as well as having a tour in town hall. We also got to go into the Lord Mayor Chambers and sit in the comfy arm chairs.

The children had an actual meeting in the town hall and will be discussing the following question with their peers: 'Should we mix the year groups during learning time?'. We will let you know the outcome of the question.

The Fab Year Fives

Wednesday 14th saw the second visit of the Fab Year Fives to the care home. The children sang a variety of songs and performed some dance routines for the residents.

Both the residents and the children enjoyed the morning session.

The Fab Year Fives

The Fab Year Fives are five year 5 pupils who have been chosen because of their excellent attitude to school to go and read, play games and talk to residents at a local care home.

Their first visit was on Wednesday 17th October; the residents thoroughly enjoyed the presence of the children and they all sang songs together.

We are hoping the children can visit fortnightly and build a bond with the residents who are suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We've had the Macmillan coffee morning for the children and raised an amazing £115.19!

This is a fantastic achievement - well done!

We would like to thank all the parents in year 5 LM/SC who donated buns and cakes to such a worthwhile cause and to the children for being so passionate about a worthy cause.

A massive THANK YOU!
